rumors and scandals

Well, here's the situation. I have formally resigned my position as editor for Mystic Moon Press. In addition, I have also sent a registered letter pulling all of my contracts due to non-payment. I have not received royalties, or payment for editing since 3rd quarter of last year, therefore I had no choice.

This saddens me greatly, and rumors are flying as the senior editor and other staff members have also resigned. Fictionwise no longer offers books from Mystic Moon Press and it is my understanding that others will follow suit in short order.

Supposedly the owner cashed the payments received for sales and kept the money for herself. This is an unsubstantiated rumor at this point, but one I think is likely. Regardless of the truth, I will be either seeking a new publisher or hopefully opening my own publishing company catering specifically to Canadian authors.

Thank you to everyone who purchased my works, the fact that you enjoyed them is far better payment than any monetary amount could ever amount to, yet money does keep food in my belly. So, please be patient, Chroma Shift - Assassins' Paradise (sequel to the exciting Assassins' Treaty) is finished and will be published as soon as the rights to the series revert to me.

Tiger's Return is well underway, but I haven't yet finished writing, with all the craziness of the past week. Still, I will continue to update you all, though I always update my website first, so if you want the news as it happens, visit http://canauth.ca

On to the next interview...and general complaining

Hi everyone, and thanks for stopping by...

I've completed the interview with Kevin J Anderson, thanks Kevin! It was a wonderful success and I'm trying to find a market for it. I'll let you all know when and where it will be published once the details are arranged.

As far as the next interview goes, I've got a couple of options that I'm currently working on. I'm hoping to hear back from some people you'll definitely recognize but I don't want to jump the gun and spoil anything, so you'll have to be patient.

I'm quite disappointed in the publishing industry. It seems to take forever to get a response, which is bad enough, but when said companies tell you it will take X amount of time to respond, then I feel it's only reasonable to assume they stick to that schedule.

I sent an item in to one publisher a month ago, and they said one to two weeks...
I sent another item in two months ago, they said six weeks...

Now I can understand getting overworked and even running behind, but wouldn't it simply be polite of those people to send a quick note or even just post a message on the website to say they're behind?

Common courtesy seems to have gone the way of common sense...What a shame!

Until next time, when I hopefully will have a response from somebody and better news to talk about...

Busy writing, but here's a quick update

Hi everyone, sorry it's been so long between updates. I'm still working hard at completing the sequels to Tiger's Realm and Assassins' Treaty. I have managed to finish an Erotic novella titled "Conquest of Lust" which is now looking for a home. I've submitted it to a fine publisher and am waiting to hear back.

In the meantime I will continue to write and keep you all up to date as things progress. The latest and greatest news can always be found on my website.

Times are hard enough with criminals poaching your work!

Yeah, poaching!
There is a new scam running around and it just makes me sick. They are preying on young writers and that's the worst kind of low!

It's so difficult to get ahead in this business, yet some people (and I use the term loosely) feel they need to maker it harder for everyone.

Here's how it works...
They place an add of Craigslist or Kijiji or some such advertising board calling for resumes and sample submissions for articles. They then turn around and sell those articles to reputable companies, keeping the profits for themselves.

I know it's posted everywhere on the net but I have to say it again: RESEARCH! always check out the company that you are submitting to before sending your work. It takes only a few minutes to see if somebody is a legitimate company, so Google them!

If they are legit, they will have loads of information on the submission process and will not ask for a resume. Be wary of any adds on public boards, especially if they don't use industry terminology, like bio, synopsis, etc...

If you have a doubt, you're probably safer not submitting, but you could always ask my opinion, I'd be happy to refer you to a few good publishers who a accepting unsolicited manuscripts or Query letters. Send me a message and I'll give you my list.

Love, Sex and Assassination

I received a great review for Assassins' Treaty, part of the Chroma Shift series. I was so excited to see how much Jaime from Dark Diva Reviews enjoyed the story. It's obvious from her comments that she isn't aware it is a series, but that's fine, because she'll be all the more excited when the next book comes out.
For those of you who are curious, check out the review HERE.

For those of you following Chroma Shift, you'll be pleased to know that I managed to get two more chapters done today and things are really picking up. I also have been doing work on a cover for the new book which I will release when completed.

Keep checking back and I'll keep you up to speed. Also, in the near future you can look at a new website that will have all of my information on display.

'til then, keep reading.

On a side note, the interview with Liam from Cancer Bats went well. He was kind enough to put myself and Nicole on the guest list, so we stayed on for one of the best concerts Sudbury has ever seen!

Keep an eye out for the March edition of Futureale magazine to find out what Liam had to say regarding video shoots, upcoming tours and a variety of more personal information!

Cancer Bats! Amazon and Tiger's Return!

That's right fans, keeping with my never-ending schedule of things to do, I'll be interviewing Cancer Bats' lead vocal man Liam Cormier for an upcoming article in the March issue of Futureale magazine! The interview will be performed at Jubilee Hall in Sudbury just before the concert starts on Saturday. Everyone around here is terribly excited, especially my step-daughter Nicole who has tickets to the show. Liam's publicist has graciously allowed me to bring Nicole to meet Liam which has out her teenage energy through the roof.

Aside from that I've added some things to Amazon that should be showing up shortly. Search inside the Book will be offered for Tiger's Realm and there is a feedback section on the page just begging (well not desperate begging) for people to comment.

As if that weren't enough, I am still hard at work on Tiger's Return, it should be in editing very soon. I've also submitted a full length novel to a different publisher. It is part of the Chaos series and is titled Created through Chaos. Your favorite characters John and Kelly will be returning, along with Kelly's sister, John's father and sister as well as a slew of other new characters. I'll keep you posted on the results of that querry as things progress.

For now, my plate is full and I'm still charging ahead with new ideas, talk to you all soon!

til then, keep reading!

Unfortunate event

It was a sad day this past Wednesday. Our family cat Sarina passed away at around 10 am. The family was devastated, especially the children. Obviously doing a live chat at the time when my family needed my support was out of the question. I do apologize for the short notice, but there was little warning of Sarina's condition. A loving pet for 17 years, she will be sadly missed by all of us. We will be putting a memorial page on the website over the next couple of days. I hope you'll stop by and take a moment to view some of our happy memories of Sarina.

I will re-schedule the chat just as soon as my schedule permits. I have a few items on the table at the moment but I imagine within the next few weeks I'll work something out. Until then, thank you for all of your support and I look forward to chatting with you.

Will you do a favour for my little girl?

Well, the new year is off to a great start so far. I'm working my tail off to complete a few projects that are still in the works. I've also redoubled my advertising efforts and hope to be getting my own website soon. Don't worry, you'll all be the first to know the address once that's been decided.
The new site will most likely contain a chat room, detailed information about all of my writing, not just the stuff from Mystic Moon Press, and several other neat new twists.

In the meantime, I would love it if everyone would pop over to the following website. My darling little girl put this together for me and I know she'd be really happy if the hit counter went crazy. Feel free to send any thoughts to me and I'd be happy to pass them along. She's 14 and becoming a woman way too fast for my tastes, but I guess all Dad's feel that way. Anyway, be kind with your comments, and if you have any helpful tips for my future site, please feel free to pass them along as well.
As always, just
clic the pic!

Thanks from Kevin

Thanks in advance and I'll see you all soon.

Happy New Year to some

Well, the holidays are over for me, though several of you are still awaiting new years. I hope yours is just as special as mine was.

Back to the grindstone eh? I'm not feeling very creative lately, but I will keep bashing away at Tiger's Return. I have a couple of other projects on the go and hope to have something newsworthy over the next few months. In the meantime, finish off that leftover turkey and read one of my books.

'til next time, keep reading
